Hiero
Hiero
'HIERO is a deep inspirational encounter with our own sacred spaces, interweaved with those from a wide spectrum of generations. It magically and surprisingly unfolds circles of life in an atemporal performance, triggering all our senses by taking us in an awe-filled life journey with an amazing beauty. Unforgettable.'
Cristina Pinedo, MADE Ensemble member August 5 2024.
‘Hiero’ is a new intergenerational dance experience conceived and produced by Great Southern Dance and created in collaboration with Mature Artists Dance Experience. Aged 13-76, ‘Hiero’s’ cast of 20 dancers spans four generations! In development through 2024-25, the project combines a professional dance company with an Ensemble of 12 mature artists from MADE and four youth dance interns from DRILL Performance.
Meaning ‘sacred’, the Greek word hiero is used here to name the way performance will be used as a lens, focussing those present on the dynamics of relating and offering glimpses of intergenerational connections we deeply respect and hold dear to us. The work is a truly unique exploration of community and connection!
Hiero explores how a dance performance can celebrate different stages in the lifespan. Stage 1 July 1-6 2024 at City Hall was accessible to the community via workshop and public showing.Participants could attend a workshop or a performance - or do both. On Day 6 of the 2024 City Hall residency, we threw open the City Hall doors to the community. Integral to the project's development, is a need to know how workshop participants and audience members respond. They continue to be a part of the creative process as GSD and MADE move to Stage 2 of the project.
